Thousands of Americans create a resolution every New Years. They plan that this year will be the year they actually accomplish goals with success. Some succeed, others look to the next holiday to repeat the whole cycle over again. So this February keep on track with your New Year Resolutions with these tips and tricks.

The Top 5 New Years Resolutions for 2017:

  1. Lose Weight & Healthier Eating
  2. Life & Self Improvements
  3. Better Financial Decisions
  4. Quit Smoking
  5. Do more exciting things

If you have not been successful in maintaining your New Year Goals, fear not! A majority (48.4%) of people have infrequent success; 42.4% of people fail on their resolution each year. Don’t want to be in the majority? Want to be like 9.2% of the people who are successful in achieving their resolutions? These tricks and tips will help:

Don’t Keep Your Resolutions a Secret.

Telling someone else about your goals can help you keep your promises. The more people you tell, the more pressured you’ll be to hold yourself to your resolution. Sharing makes it a team effort. With people keeping you on track, there is a better chance of success.

Be Specific & Stay Grounded

The best resolutions are realistic ones. Resolutions should be something you can actually achieve but will challenge you. If resolutions are too unattainable, they will just make you feel terrible and weak willed- even when you are not. Making goals specific makes it easier to measure success.

Set Reminders and Checkpoints

Set a reminder for the first day of every month. This is a checkin to make sure you are working towards your goal. It’s easy or forget resolutions when life gets in the way, so having that little reminder on your phone or computer will help keep momentum.

Be Flexible

Sometimes resolutions will not be completed right away, or there will be setback that won’t allow you to work on them for a while. Don’t stress, or become discouraged. Modifying resolutions might be the only way to complete one. Resolutions should be a lifestyle change. They shouldn’t necessarily have an end. Making sure they fit into your life without too much strain is very important.

Good Luck! This is a new year and a new you.
